The investigation concluded that Whitesell had committed a staggering number of safety and health violations, 72 to be exact. Primarily, workers and employees were exposed to several amputation hazards. Del Monte Foods' Mendota Farm Operations Group has been awarded with OSHA Safety and Health Designation. The U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recognized Del Monte Foods' Mendota, IL Farm Operations group for its world class safety operations and culture. Del Monte's Farm Operations group was awarded a Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Award Program (SHARP) designation sponsored by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The SHARP award recognizes those employers who operate an ideal safety and health management system. On July 31, Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) which is a division of OSHA filed a proposal to amend the state’s heat illness prevention regulations with the Occupational Safety and Health of California. The request followed the proposal of Governor Schwarzenegger to improve and strengthen the standards to protect outdoor workers from the scorching sun. Besides, the state budget which recently signed has authorized the spending of $1.5 million to expand on the efforts to educate employers and workers about the necessity of prevention from heat illness. This was the expanding outreach to train employers and workers, and will help to expand successful partnership of OSHA in California with labor, industry and community groups.
